2010 JUMP ROPE CLUB

Every Monday through Thursday morning, starting October 11, the gymnasium will be open at 7:30 a.m. for students interested in participating in a jump rope program. Participants will try to complete skills at three levels; beginning, intermediate and advanced. It is hoped that students will benefit and obtain greater cardiovascular fitness and coordination.

SCHEDULE CHANGE:
Because safety is of our utmost concern, we will not be able to host all grades everyday in jump rope club. Jumpers will need to abide by the jump rope club calendar. For the most part, 2nd and 3rd graders are invited to jump on Mondays and Wednesdays and 4th and 5th graders are invited to jump on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The calendar may change as we go through the school year, so it will be imperative that you watch your calendars. I apologize for the inconvenience this calendar may cause families who have multiple aged children. But, this is really the only way we can have jump rope club in a safe manner.

As this is to be on a drop-in basis only, students are welcome to attend when their schedule permits.

Students interested in participating are to report directly to the gym and stay in the gym until 8:37 a.m.

Each child must have a signed permission slip in order to participate.

DETOUR REMINDER TO FUN RUN PARTICIPANT PARENTS

Due to construction on Ashman St., the route to Stratford Woods Park is detoured. Please allow extra time for the detour. The recommended route to Stratford Woods Park is:

Take Waldo north to Wackerly Rd.
Go east on Wackerly to Rockwell Rd.
Go south on Rockwell to Ashman St.
Go west on Ashman St. to Stratford Woods Park entrance.

Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

WELCOME TO WOODCREST PE

Hello and welcome to Woodcrest PE!

I am very excited to be a part of the Woodcrest Elementary staff and am looking forward to a fantastic year! Please be sure to check back to this website for updates on all that goes on in the Woodcrest Elementary PE program.

2010 MPS FUN RUN

The purpose of the Fun Run is to stimulate interest in cardio-vascular endurance among students and to provide them with distance experience. The Fun Run will also allow students the opportunity to compete and compare their ability with others their age. The Fun Run is for all 4th and 5th grade students in the Midland Public Schools and Parochial schools.

Length: The Fun Run will be one mile run on the cross-country course at Stratford Woods. All races will begin near the pavilion.

Date: Friday, October 1, 2010. The first race will begin at 4:45 p.m. Stratford Woods City Park is located off Ashman near the US 10 Expressway. There is construction in the area and a detour. Please allow ample time to park.

Order of Races: We will run ahead of schedule when possible.
4:45 p.m. – 5th grade girls
5:00 p.m. - 5th grade boys
5:15 p.m. - 4th grade girls
5:30 p.m. - 4th grade boys

Registration: All students must pick up their nametag in the pavilion before their race. This is our way of correctly identifying students as they cross the finish line. Please be there no later than 15 minutes before the scheduled race. Remember we may run ahead of schedule.

Other important information: Runners should wear comfortable clothes to run in. Please don’t wear a shirt that has your school name on it. No spikes are allowed. You may want to bring a water bottle and snack.

RUN CLUB 2010

Beginning September 13 through October 1, at 7:30 a.m. Woodcrest students will be given the opportunity to enhance their overall fitness by participating in a running program. Students will be encouraged to run at a comfortable pace while working on their cardiovascular fitness. This activity will occur on the soccer practice field where students will run around the perimeter, keeping track of their laps as they run.

At 8:15 a.m., students will then go into the gym to record the distance/mileage they have achieved for the day. Students that decide to participate in this program are allowed to come any day (Monday through Friday) that they choose to attend, however once with the club, they must stay with the group until the group is dismissed to go to class. Students will have the opportunity to monitor their own individual progress. The importance of daily exercise will be stressed. For cardiovascular benefits to occur, students must try to attend on a daily basis.

Please Note: Because of the wet grass, students will more than likely get wet socks and shoes. I would recommend keeping extra dry socks and shoes in the classroom or backpack.

If your child is interested in participating in this program, please return the following permission slip directly to me in the gym or to my mailbox in the main office. I must have their permission slip on file before your child can participate in the run club.

IF IT IS RAINING, RUN CLUB IS CANCELLED FOR THAT DAY.
