MPS Fun Run Cancelled
Because of the inclement weather, the 2011 MPS Fun Run was cancelled. Unfortunately, there is no rain date for this event. We are all very disappointed, but of course, we have no control of the weather. We are looking forward to next year's event!
PUMPKIN PATCH
The Woodcrest Pumpkin Patch obstacle course will take place in the Woodcrest gym during physical education classes October 24 - 26. There will be no Jump Rope Club the week of October 24th due to the elaborate set up.
JUMP ROPE CLUB 2011-12
Every Monday through Thursday morning, starting October 12, the gymnasium will be open at 7:40 a.m. for students interested in participating in a jump rope program. Participants will try to complete skills at three levels; beginning, intermediate and advanced. It is hoped that students will benefit and obtain greater cardiovascular fitness and coordination.
Because safety is of our utmost concern, we will not be able to host all grades everyday in jump rope club. Jumpers will need to abide by the jump rope club calendar. For the most part, 2nd and 3rd graders are invited to jump on Mondays and Wednesdays and 4th and 5th graders are invited to jump on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The calendar may change as we go through the school year, so it will be imperative that you watch your calendars. I apologize for the inconvenience this calendar may cause families who have multiple aged children. But, this is really the only way we can have jump rope club in a safe manner. As this is to be on a drop-in basis only, students are welcome to attend when their schedule permits. Students interested in participating are to report directly to the gym and stay in the gym until 8:37 a.m. Each child must have a signed permission slip in order to participate.

2011 RUN CLUB
Beginning September 12, Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays through October 7 during lunch recess, Woodcrest third, fourth and fifth grade students will be given the opportunity to enhance their overall fitness by participating in a run/walk program. This activity will occur on the playground. Students will run/walk around the perimeter of the playground, keeping track of their laps as they run.
One of the goals of the run club is to give students the opportunity to earn recognition by completing mileage the equivalent to one marathon (26 miles). Our time is limited during recess, so I do accept mileage completed outside of the lunch recess run club. If your child runs/walks outside of the school day, but not during a practice for sport programs, they may count that mileage toward their marathon mileage. A signed parent note with their completed mileage will be needed to record their mileage.
Students who decide to participate in this program are allowed to come any day (Monday, Wednesday, or Friday) that they choose to attend. Students will have the opportunity to monitor their own individual progress. For cardiovascular benefits to occur, students must try to attend on a consistent basis.

HIGH JUMP PRACTICES
For those students who would like extra high jump practice, we will be having 3 drop-in high jump practices in May. Those practices start at 8:00 am and will run until the start of school. The dates of the drop-in practices for high jump are: May 11, May 18 and May 25.
MPS CITY-WIDE TRACK MEET
This year's city-wide track meet will be Wednesday, June 1st at the Midland High School track. This date has been changed. It is not going to be held on Tuesday, May 31st as was originally announced.
The city-wide track meet is open to all 4th and 5th graders in the Midland Public School district and those students in the parochial schools who are taught by Midland Public School physical education teachers.
More information regarding track practices and events will be coming.
